This wonderful piece of art is an iron dragon dated 1713 by artist Mune'Aki.

This is a wooden Wisdom King from the 12th century.  Wisdom Kings are deities who eliminate worldly desires.

This is a wooden Shinto Male Deity from Kyoto.  At the Diashogun Hachijinja Shrine in Kyoto, this deity was worshipped as the Guardian of the City.  It dates from the 11th century and is classified as "Important Cultural Property".  NOTE:  If you want to see more detail, click on the image (it will take a few seconds to compile).  To return to this page, click on the Blue/White arrow in the upper left of the screen.

This is a classical piece of imari porcelain - a shallow bowl - dating from the 17th century.

This is a protective suit to be worn in case of fire.  Often the women of the samurai class (military nobility) who lived in Edo (now Tokyo) had this clothing as fire was a common occurrence.

This is a decorative set - a saddle and a pair of stirrups.  The design features cranes and turtles.  Despite it looking like metal, these pieces are actually made of wood that has a Maki-e lacquer sprinkled with gold or silver powder.  These items were made for nobles.  This is a 19th century piece.
