This is a Buddhist Bodhisattva (called a Nikko Bosatsu) in Japanese. A Bodhisattva is one who has attained enlightenment but postpones Nirvana to help others attain enlightenment. This statute is made from wood and gold leaf. Again, this is an item designated as "Important Cultural Property".
